BIS:- As the Best in Show judge it was different for me, as well. I had the honour and pleasure of choosing from all the breeds and the NSC on both days by selecting two dogs to go forward to the Best in Show line up. As a side comment – what an ideal way to give hands on experience to new up and coming potential Best in Show judges.

My two choices on the first day were the Boxer and the Shih Tzu.

The Shih Tzu, Howard's Tameron Mr Kenzo What a grand animal this is. When one talks about the chrysanthemum head and expression. This dog fills the bill. He has superb pigmentation. He moves a dream and typically moves like this breed should and he just asked to be placed.
My two choices on the second day were the Basenji and the Whippet

BPIS:- This was judged in the same manner as the BIS. There’s lots to write about about this show and there is lots to commend and I am sure that the show reporters will have a field day! I was honoured to have been given the task of judging Best In Show an this most historic occasion, and a special moment in the day was cutting the cake with Rosie Smart! WOW!

My two choices on the first day were the Chow Chow and the Shih Tzu.

Reserve Best Puppy in Show also came from the first day in the Shih Tzu, Gracey’s Debshores Giggle and a Wiggle. Again, what a little sweetie. Absolute grand in expression. Beautiful coat for one so young and went through the paces with style and one that I will watch with great interest.

My two choices on the second day were Pointer and the Golden Retriever

Frankly, I found the breed to be in a mess! Where has the oriental expression gone that should be so typical of this breed? I found so many down-nosed dogs, giving a totally alien expression. Fronts were a concern too. Many were much too narrow and I was barely able to get two fingers between the front legs. Deep chests seem to be a thing of the past and short, narrow ribcages were common. I am not a mouth fanatic but many dogs had missing incisors, which gave a narrow jaw and many were too undershot. Having said this, I did find some very typical dogs but they were in the minority. This should be a sturdy, robust breed. Many would have looked more at home in the Toy Group.

1st YAKEE DIAMOND GEEZER NAF TAF (MR & MRS D CROSSLEY) G/W. Lovely large head with dark eyes and broad jaw. Low to ground and well boned. He has a massive coat which tends to make him look a little stuffy, but underneath it he was very correct. Moved soundly. Would prefer a longer tail.
